The Fisherman and the Sea Turtle

This is the story of a fisherman named Archie and a sea turtle named Micah. Archie works on the Terra Sea and when he comes in with his catch, he lives on Ella Mae Island. On this trip, the fisherman is bringing home more than he had planned. Usually, when Archie catches something in his net that isn’t a fish, he tosses it back into the sea where it belongs. This time, Archie finds a sea turtle tangled in his net with injured flippers.

Micah just happens to be swimming in the wrong place at the wrong time. He becomes caught in Archie’s net and instinctively tries to get out, injuring his front flippers as he pulls at his trap. Archie can’t throw this big guy back into Terra Sea because he will surely sink to the bottom without his front flippers. So, the fisherman has a new friend, at least for a while or perhaps for a lifetime.

Archie takes Micah to a special doctor on the island who cares for injured marine creatures. Accidents like this happen quite often near Ella Mae Island. Wherever there are boats and swimming creatures, there will be unwelcome encounters. This doctor has a special shallow pool where Micah can live until he recovers the use of his flippers. Archie will visit Micah on every return trip that he makes from Terra Sea.

You might think that Archie is a bad person, but this is not the case. He takes great care in doing his job on Terra Sea and sometimes accidents just happen. We must do our best to make life better in any way that we can when someone is injured or sick. Just like Archie helps Micah when he is in trouble, we must do the same. Perhaps we are very lucky to have people like Archie in the Land of Terra.
